Supermarket Deals May Not Really Be Good Deals

This past weekend my wife and i  were at our local supermarket (name withheld to give the guilty a chance to repent) . As we were going through the list of things to buy, we got to the soft-drinks’ aisle were i got the shock of my life. On display were two items side-by-side but the prices placed on them sent my money management brain to go into overdrive.

A 15-can carton of coke was priced as £4.00 while the 30-can carton was sold at £9.49!!!

I stood back and wondered if it was a mistake or someone was trying to be ‘clever’. From my observation, it appeared that the 30-can cartons have been sold more than the 15-can ones – which mean people have fallen for the trick – blatant as it might have been.

An elementary school pupil will tell you that in order to have a deal on these items, the 30-can cartons need to be priced LESS THAN £8!!! These store are counting on their customers ‘taking leave of their senses’ once they see the DEAL signs.

When you see a deal at your supermarket, please take a few minutes to calculate if it is really a deal. If it is, you then need to ask yourself if you need the item – is it a deal for you?. Doing this might save a lot of regrets and money.
