The rush to acquire the latest ‘fancy-shmancy’ gadget has been happening for a long time. In the recent past, it happened with the ipod, iphone, itoy, ipet, iloan and all those christmas ‘must-haves’ where people had to queue for hours, and sometimes even days, just to get these items.
Having the latest products is not the problem; it is what people will do to get them is what gives me concerned. No consideration is given to what makes financial sense and what does not.
The latest gadget in town now is the ipad. This is Apple’s ‘answer’ to Amazon’s ebook reader Kindle. The rush for this one is beyond belief.
Since Apple announced that it was delaying the UK launch of iPad, an explosion of black market imports began. Hundreds of Britons are believed to have imported US iPads. They sell for up to £1000 ($1520) despite costing just $499 (£330) in the US.
Considering that these UK users will not be able to download apps without a US account with Apple’s iTune store, “Consumers are desperate for the iPad and a lot of them will resort to the black market to get one,” said Tom Dunmore of Stuff magazine.
Why would anybody pay three times the cost of an item when you can wait a few months and get the same item at normal price?
Lust is not a word used only in the sexual sense; it just mean that you want something so badly that you cannot be happy without it. When someone is lusting, he/she will do anything in order to get he/she is after. Anything……
This kind of behaviour will kill your financial future … Death by iPad or is it financial death by impatience. Children will throw tantrums just to get their ways. Every healthy adult still has a “little johnny” inside of him but his behaviour, when it comes to getting something new, needs to be reined-in.
The Bible says in Proverbs 21:5 “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Impatience will make you do foolish things that will eventually and severely damage your financial future.
Be a bit more careful of the length you will go to get anything.
