Few the last few days i have been posting articles about giving and it so happened that I have just finished reading the book Running With The Giants by John C. Maxwell which has good section on giving in it.
Running with the Giants: What the Old Testament Heroes Want You to Know About Life and Leadership. This is an inspirational little book that draws life and leadership principles from Old Testament Biblical characters.
John C. Maxwell makes you imagine yourself running 10 laps in a race with the stands full of the great people of faith from the Bible come down in turn to join you in running one lap, and share words of encouragement as they do. The Ten that Maxwell chose were – Noah, Esther, Joseph, Moses, Rebekah, Abraham, the Servant Girl in 2 Kings 5:1-3 who was a slave to Naaman, David and Jonathan .
Rebekah’s advice has to do with generousity – for when others ask for our help. Her advice in the book can be summed up under three points:
- You can’t be generous and be legalistic
- You can’t walk the second mile until you’ve walked the first – start giving now not later
- Extra blessings result from extra efforts
The Bible says “…God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7) How will you rate your giving?
