Has the recession changed your charitable giving in any way? Here’s a story of giving that will warm your heart:
A British Paralympian hopeful got the surprise of his life recently when he was presented with a £5000 gift in a sweet box during his lunch break at school. A mystery couple believed to be in their 80s, tracked down 14-year-old Lyndon Longhorne and handed him a box of Liquorice Allsorts as he chatted with his friends.
The couple drove around all–day trying to find and to later Lyndon “We’ve got a present for you, it’s money. It’s £5000, have you got a school bag?” Needless to say the teenager was shocked and left speechless.
The couple, who arrived at the school in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, in a lilac Micra car, joked with Lyndon’s classmates before leaving without giving their names.
Lyndon who is a budding swimmer lost both legs and an arm to meningitis as a baby. He is desperate to compete in the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Thousands have been raised by the Limbs For Lyndon campaign which aims to buy the artificial limbs he needs – thus the generous donation of the mystery couple.
The recession has come and gone; even though we might still be feeling its effects but a little act of helping the less fortunate goes a very long way.
Your destination might be Financial Freedom but you will enjoy the journey better if you put a smile on people’s faces as you travel along.
