Fridays, Fears and Finances

For the last few months I have been testing a new, revolutionary mortgage sourcing software  which will hitting the mortgage market early next year. Two weeks ago the software’s architect released a new alpha version of the program for testing but i noticed he called this version 1.0.14 even though that last version i worked on version 1.0.12. So i asked him “What happened to 1.0.13?”. “13? That’s bad luck” he said to me in reply. Weird? Not really … but read on.

“Paraskevidekatriaphobia” is the term used for The fear of Friday the 13th. Yes some people have that. Anyone that has this “fear” will be very, very afraid at least day every year. Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of good or bad luck. In the Gregorian calendar, this day occurs at least once, but at most three times a year.

Today is FRIDAY 13th of November, 2009

Should You Be Afraid or Be Very Afraid ?

HA, HA, HA, HA
 (evil laughter)

Superstitions come in all sort of ways. While some people are scared of the number 13,some Friday the 13th and others are scared of the date October 31st – that is Halloween day/night when people young and old dress up as ghost and ghuols. In the UK, however, there is even something scarier than witches and wizards on October 31st. The day happens to be the paper filing deadline for 2009 Self Assessment Tax Returns. Tax? Yes, Tax. January 31st strikes fear in the hearts of those filing their taxes online.

Whatever your fears, i have learnt that gaining knowledge about something will drive away your fear of it. The Bible talks about people perishing because of a lack of knowledge. For fear of bad decisions, people often procrastinate. They put things off because they don’t want to make mistakes. You only have to remember what the hockey great Wayne Gretzky said “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take” to change your mind.

I will leave you with a verse of the Bible that i know will help you against any “phobia” that you may have right now about your finances. (For more myths about money click here)

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad
