Though winter may be setting-in but here’s something to brighten your weekend:
A London bus doubled up as a Maternity delivery room last week after a baby was born on a No. 394 in Hackeney, London. The baby has been given the middle name Dennis, after the vehicle’s manufacturer.
(Dennis Specialist Vehicles, originally known as Dennis Brothers Ltd, was founded in 1895 by brothers John and Raymond Dennis. The company, which has been making motor vehicles for 100 years, is now owned by Alexander Dennis, one of the largest bus builders in the world.)
Olatidebe Dennis Agboola is believed to be the first birth aboard one of London’s buses after he arrived at the back of the bus last Thursday.
It was definitely a first for Pauline Jacobs, the driver, who alerted controllers to dispatch an ambulance as Emiloju Fatima Lawal went into labour.
She parked the single-decker bus near Mare Street to help the pregnant woman, and was assisted by passenger Carole Allen, 60, a switchboard supervisor at Homerton Hospital.
Miss Lawal, 37, of Hackney, who has three other children and who was gave birth on Tuesday, a day early, said: “A man asked if I was OK, I said ‘No, I’m in Labour.’
“A few minutes later he came out and I said ‘Excuse me, the baby is here’.”
Miss Allen said: “he just flew out onto the floor. I didn’t feel panicked, just relieved.”
I’m sure from now on when this woman hear the phrase “Expect A Miracle”, she would understand that the miracle can come anytime and anywhere. Have a nice weekend.
