At the begining of this year, my wife, our children and i had a goal-setting family discussion. When it came to my turn, i informed them that one of my goals this year is not to do “a Usain Bolt”. The following was my explanation to them:
On 16th August last year, Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt became the new Olympic 100 metres’ champion; setting a new world record in the process. Anyone who watched the race would know Bolt could have finished faster – if he hadn’t slowed down to celebrate in the last 20 metres.
After the Games, a group of physicists from the University of Oslo in Norway, calculated that had Usain Bolt continued to the finish line just like most sprinters do on such occasions, that is without, like, doing the reggea dance, he would have set an even more amazing record of 9.55 seconds, in the best case scenario. Bolt’s coach even said at a press conference that Bolt’s time in that memorable Beijing dash could have been 9.52 seconds or better who know?
What i’m i driving at, you would never know what you can accomplish this year financially unless you make up your mind to “go all the way”. If the going gets tough, resist the temptation to give in. If you are winning, delay the celebration until you’ve actually reached the end – you might be surprised with what God has in stock for you.
So if you’ve already abandoned your resolutions for this year, pick them up again; there was a reason you made them in the first place.
Have a blessed week
