Many parents think that today’s children are more materialistic than any previous generation of youngsters. This was part of the findings of a recent survey conducted by the charity – Children’s Society.
90% of adults believe excessive advertising – ranging from junk food to video games – has turned youngsters into grasping consumers. The advertisements, they felt, put too much pressure on parents to spend at Christmas.
Advertisers, in my opinion, generally rely on human dissatisfaction to make their money. They try to convince us that we NEED the newer, better, bigger, faster, lighter or sexier model of whatever they are trying to sell.
Being content on the other hand can combat this greed. We should teach our children that it is not everything advertised that we must buy.
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
